Toddler Week 5 Activities

A. Free Play (Mix Group)

Total Time 20 Min.

Children will play outdoors. Teacher will monitor and observe their activities and play. It will be indoor play time in case of the rainy season or any other circumstances. Teacher will not guide them with what to play with and how to play. She will take care of safety and causations. She can ask to make a line or wait for turn to come.

B. Circle Time (Whole Group)

(10 min.)Tell the children that today/this week you will be talking about things they like to do.

The teacher will begin by saying her own name. My name is Amita. What is your name?

Encourage children to tell their names.

She will then discuss what she liked today. I like the colour of my dress, I like the milk I drank in the morning, I like my car etc.

She encourages the children to speak. Let them talk about their likes and dislikes for the day.

Let them talk about things they like to do.

Talk to them about how each one of them is special.

Discuss how eating healthy food and playing outdoors helps to keep our body active and so on.

(Let children stand in a circle and let each child point to herself/himself while reciting the poem). (Songs, stories, poems and finger plays that help to enhance each child’s self-esteem by focusing on the child’s name)

Say your Name

Make children sit in a circle on the floor. Let each child say her / his name turn-wise.

Then talk about how important everyone’s name is.

Take a large ball and roll the ball to a child and let the child with the ball say her / his name.

Ask the child to roll back the ball to you and the ‘ball name game’ continues.

F. Planned/Structured Game (Fine / Gross)

Total Time 15 Min.

The teacher will keep objects of four colours on the table so thatthe children can see. Then she will pick up object of one colour and say its name. Like a red pencil, then the children willrepeat it. Then again, she will ask which colour is this, the children will say red.The same steps would be followed for blue, yellow and green colours.

Material required: Blocks of red, yellow, blue and green colours.

After identification, the teacher will ask the children to get objects of thecolour they like from the classroom and keep them near the respective colour block.

The teacher will say that I can rub my hands. Then she will ask the children to imitate the action. Then she will say rub, rub, rub.

In the same way roll my hands and clap my hands.

Next, she will encourage children to share which actions or activities can they do on their own – like walking on a straight line, combing hair, wear slip-ons, eat on their own.

Talk to them about how each one of them is special. (Different children are able to do different activities – that is how they are special.)

Clean up their toys. When they take toys out, they put them back.

Let each child try to wear his or her footwear on their own.

Crumpling of paper

The teacher will demonstrate how to crumple a piece of paper with fingers and palm and make it into a ball. Children do the same and then paint the ball. When the paint dries off, teacher shows how to unfold the ball and see the magic paint all over the paper. Each paper opened will have a different pattern design on it. The work of

the children can be displayed and then glued in their workbook.

Material required: Old newspapers (1/4th part of newspaper for each child)

For e.g. The fawn tumbles over a stone and gets hurt – so he is sad. How will you feel when you fall down or get hurt? What will mumma do when you are hurt?

Materials required: Happy and sad smileys on candy sticks.

The teacher will give small fish cut outs of 4 different colors to the children and ask them to pick up and show her the red fish, then the yellow fish, blue fish and green fish. In each basket she will keep one color paper and tell “This is a red basket” … yellow basket, blue basket and green basket. She will show the baskets with colored paper inside themand ask children to sort the fish color wise in different baskets.

Material required: Red, yellow, blue and green paper fish cut outs.

Walk on a straight line

The teacher will tape 4 straight lines using red, green, blue, yellow tapes. Then she will ask the children to walk on those taped straight lines.

Sharing and Caring

The teacher will allot toys to all the children. Once the children have played with their toy, they will exchange their toy with the other children. Teacher makes sure that children take care of their toys by not throwing it or snatching from the other child.

Hand Clapping

The teacher and children sit in a circle and clap and tap their hands with the child sitting next to them.

Kids will then play with a partner to improve timing and control of their movements in a fun way. Using music and rhythm is a great way to support body awareness.
